Greenbrook Falls is the tallest waterfall in New Jersey at roughly 250 feet and ranks among the tallest in the northeast as a whole. Despite its impressive height, it remains largely overlooked, primarily because of a few limitations. The waterfall drains a relatively small area of just over one square mile, so unless there has been recent heavy rainfall, the flow is often little more than a trickle. In addition, the falls empty directly into the Hudson River, making it impossible to view the entire cascade from within the park, and the river is too wide to view from across in New York.
Despite these limitations, Greenbrook Falls is surprisingly easy to visit. It can be seen from Henry Hudson Drive, a scenic and drivable road at the base of the Palisades Cliffs.
