Coppermine Falls

Coppermine Falls in the Delaware Water Gap

Description

Coppermine Falls is a moderately sized waterfall that drops a modest 11 feet in the Delaware Water Gap. Despite not being large, the waterfall is scenic. Massive boulders are scattered around the top of the falls, giving it a more rugged appearance. These boulders also creates an illusion where the stream passes beneath the rocks and appears to flow directly out of the bedrock itself.

Waterfall Directions

  • From the parking area on Old Mine Road, follow the Red Coppermine Trail for approximately 0.7 miles. Note: Near the very beginning of the hike, an unmarked trail branches off to the left, leading to several larger cascades, including Lower Coppermine Falls.
  • After 0.7 miles, the Coppermine Trail bends to the left (at 41.030306, -75.023209). Instead of following it, continue straight onto the obvious, unmarked path ahead. You will likely hear the waterfall here.
  • This path leads directly to the left side of Coppermine Falls. While there are multiple viewpoints here, the view is somewhat obstructed by trees. For the best views, cross Coppermine Brook.

Parking Information

Unfortunately, the parking area for Coppermine Brook is very small. While there used to be a large parking area at the bottom of the Coppermine Trail, it has since been blocked. Now, there are about 4-5 spaces on the shoulder of Old Mine Road at the trailhead. Alternatively, there is another small parking area about 0.25 miles down the road at the Poxono Boat Launch, which can also fill up during boating season.
