Unnamed Waterfall on Coppermine Brook 9

A small waterfall in the Delaware Water Gap

Description

Unnamed Waterfall on Coppermine Brook 9 is a small waterfall in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. While not the most impressive waterfall on Coppermine Brook, it is one of the easiest waterfalls to reach.

Unfortunately, it is also the least voluminous. This is because every other waterfall on Coppermine Brook is after two decently sized tributaries join the main Coppermine Brook (if you hike the Kaiser/Coppermine Connector Trail, you hike over all three). As a result, this waterfall has significantly less water flowing over it than the others. In fact, this waterfall has a very small drainage area of just 0.26 square miles; Coppermine Falls has a drainage area of 0.51 square miles, nearly double that.

While the waterfall is the least voluminous, it is still scenic and is one of the most peaceful waterfalls in the area. The low flow allows moss and algae to grow on the waterfall making it much greener than any others.

Directions

  1. Take the Red Coppermine Trail from the parking area. (Note: an unmarked trail branches left at the beginning of the hike; it leads to a few larger waterfalls, most notably Lower Coppermine Falls).
  2. Follow the trail for about a mile until you reach an intersection with the Red and Blue Kaiser/Coppermine Connector Trail
  3. Just before this intersection, locate a small side trail on the right down to Coppermine Brook, where you can see the waterfall.

Parking

Unfortunately, the parking area for Coppermine Brook is very small. While there used to be a large parking area at the bottom of the Coppermine Trail, it has since been blocked. Now, there are about 4-5 spaces on the shoulder of Old Mine Road at the trailhead. Alternatively, there is another small parking area about 0.25 miles down the road at the Poxono Boat Launch, which can also fill up during boating season.
