Unnamed Waterfall on Coppermine Brook 2

Unnamed Waterfall on Coppermine Brook 2 in the Delaware Water Gap

Description

Unnamed Waterfall on Coppermine Brook 2 is an off-trail waterfall located on Coppermine Brook in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

Unnamed Waterfall on Coppermine Brook 2 is one of the tallest, if not the tallest, waterfall on Coppermine Brook (we have not explored the whole stream yet), at approximately 30 feet. It is also one of the most scenic, thanks to the steep ravine it is located in. The waterfall features a few drops zig-zagging down the hillside before reaching a small pool.

Though Unnamed Waterfall on Coppermine Brook 2 is located just below a footbridge over Coppermine Brook, it is fairly difficult to reach. While you can scramble down the steep hillside at the bridge, I recommend approaching from downstream. I find this easier, and you will see a handful of other waterfalls on the approach.

Directions

  1. From the trailhead on Old Mine Road, follow the Red Coppermine Trail. After about a hundred feet, the trail forks with the red blazes pointing right. Turn left onto the obvious but unmarked trail.
  2. Follow this unmarked trail about a quarter mile before it ends at the (gated) entrance to the old mine.
  3. Here, you can view a smaller cascade, but you will need to go off-trail to see the next one.
  4. Work your way upstream, where you will soon reach Lower Coppermine Falls, then a separate unnamed waterfall, and finally this waterfall. The closer you get to the waterfall, the more challenging the terrain becomes. It is possible to reach the waterfall without getting your feet wet, but it is a challenge.

Parking

The parking area is very small. While there used to be a large parking area at the bottom of the Coppermine Trail, it has since been blocked. Now, there are about 4-5 spaces on the shoulder of Old Mine Road at the trailhead. Alternatively, there is another small parking area about 0.25 miles down the road at the Poxono Boat Launch, which can also fill up during boating season.
