Description
Lower Coppermine Falls Cascade is a small cascade located just downstream of Lower Coppermine Falls. The cascade is separated from the larger waterfall by a large plunge pool. If not for this pool, it would be fair to refer to these as two separate cascades.
Reaching the cascade is fairly easy and is about a quarter-mile hike along a level trail from the parking area. While the waterfall is visible from the trail, the upper portions are obscured by foliage. This creates a scenic jungle-like approach, but you will need to go off-trail if you want to see the whole waterfall; however, for most people, the view from the trail is sufficient.
Directions
- From the trailhead on Old Mine Road, follow the Red Coppermine Trail. After about a hundred feet, the trail forks with the red blazes pointing right. Turn left onto the obvious but unmarked trail.
- Follow this unmarked trail about a quarter mile before it ends at the (gated) entrance to the old mine. The cascade can be seen from this location, though you may want to bushwhack to get a better view.
Parking
While there used to be a large parking area at the bottom of the Coppermine Trail, it has since been blocked. Now, there are about 4-5 spaces on the shoulder of Old Mine Road at the trailhead. Alternatively, there is another small parking area about 0.25 miles down the road at the Poxono Boat Launch, which can also fill up during boating season.
