Unnamed Waterfall at Abram S. Hewitt State Forest 3

A waterfall in Abram S. Hewitt State Forest

Unnamed Waterfall at Abram S. Hewitt State Forest 3 is a small, easy-to-reach waterfall in West Milford. Despite being relatively unknown, it is a very scenic location and is located just across the street from one of the access points to the incredibly popular Terrace Pond hike.

This waterfall is located in a wider section of Green Brook, but under most conditions, water falls only from the far-left side. Just below the waterfall is a large pool without many rocks, making it difficult to get close without getting your feet wet. Fortunately, you can see the waterfall very well from the trail.

The simplest access is to park in the pull-off on Warwick Turnpike. There are multiple pull-offs on this road; try to park at the one at 41.157528, -74.367500. If you park in one of the other pull-offs, you will need to walk up or down the busy road. From the pull-off, find the Green and Blue Bearfort Connector Trail. Almost immediately after beginning this trail, you will reach a bridge over Green Brook. To the left, and visible from the bridge, is the waterfall. An additional clearing is also available from the side after crossing the bridge.

Just below this waterfall is another waterfall. However, this one is very difficult to reach.

Note

  • This is one of numerous waterfalls along Green Brook; the others are very hard to reach. I have cataloged six of them, excluding anything under six feet tall. There are numerous smaller cascades that did not meet the criteria.
