Middle Rutherford Falls

An image of a waterfall

Middle Rutherford Falls is a moderately sized waterfall located at High Point State Park. The waterfall is located below a dam on Rutherford Lake and between Upper Rutherford Falls and Lower Rutherford Falls. Reaching the upper falls and the top of Middle Rutherford Falls is fairly easy, though it does require hiking unofficial trails. It is much more challenging to see Middle Rutherford Falls from below. Viewing this waterfall from below should only be attempted by those comfortable off-trail and on steep terrain.

Rutherford Lake is restricted as it is a drinking water source. There is no official signage forbidding access to the trail through the lake area, a neighbor to the south of the lake has put up multiple unwelcoming trespassing signs on the trail near his house It is possible to reach the waterfall and avoid this neighbor if visiting from the north, in the direction of Route 23.

Waterfalls are actually in Wantage not Montague. Name of the outflow is Birch Brook. The access rd to Lake is public although parking is very limited and dont block gate. There are no signs on Lake but it is off limits to all use.
