Description

Allamuchy Falls is a small waterfall located just off the Sussex Branch Trail in Allamuchy Mountain State Park. At just 9.6 feet, Allamuchy Falls is fairly small, but it is a scenic cascade that splits in two near the bottom before dropping into a small pool. Because it is located on a rail trail, Allamuchy Falls is one of the easiest and most accessible waterfalls to reach in New Jersey.

Parking

The best way to reach Allamuchy Falls is by parking at the Sussex Branch Trail parking area at the intersection of Waterloo Road and Continental Drive. This parking area tends to fill up fast most days, including weekdays. Alternate parking is located at Cranberry Lake, with access to the same trail but in the opposite direction.

Directions

The waterfall is located just off the easy and flat Sussex Branch Trail, about three-quarters of a mile from the recommended parking area (or 1.2 miles from the closest Cranberry Lake parking area). You can see the waterfall from the Sussex Branch Trail, but trees and a bend in Ghost Pond Brook partially obscure it. Do not try to cross the brook here unless you want to get your feet wet. Just upstream of the waterfall is a small bridge over Ghost Pony Brook carrying the Teal Highlands Trail. The official trail turns left after the bridge, but an obvious path goes straight ahead and to the right, offering a great view of the waterfall.
