Millers Falls is a roadside waterfall located along West Brook just as it reaches the Wanaque Reservoir. As Millers Falls is part of the Wanaque Reservoir system, which supplies drinking water for most of Northeastern New Jersey, access is restricted. Unfortunately, despite being roadside and fairly large, it is fairly difficult to get a good view, and the reservoir fencing further limits visibility.
The best time to see this waterfall is when the leaves are down between late fall and early spring. You cannot see the waterfall in the summer. While West Brook is a major stream, it is still ideal to visit when water levels are generally higher in the spring. Millers Falls can only be seen by driving west of Westbrook Road (away from the Wanaque Reservoir). You can catch a glimpse by looking towards the reservoir as Westbrook Road turns right. If you pass Snake Den Road and the signs for the New Weis Center and Highlands Pool, you have gone too far.
There is a parking area for the Highlands Trail near Millers Falls. You can try parking to get a better view of the waterfall, but note that Westbrook Road is very busy and the shoulder is very narrow here. I attempted to get a better view of Millers Falls from here, but found the road too dangerous.
Due to the waterfall’s restricted access, it is nearly impossible to find images of it, and, as previously discussed, taking pictures is just as difficult because of the dangerous road conditions. Fortunately, I have been able to find one picture, published in the 1930 memoir Winbeam by Minnie May Monks.
