Sparta Glen Park Trail Guide

Sparta Glen Park is a small park in Sparta Township in Sussex County. The park features a relatively extensive trail network for a municipal park. Below are descriptions of all the marked trails in the park. Note that there are a handful of unmarked trails as well that are not included.

Orange Trail

The Orange Trail is a short loop trail beginning and ending at the park entrance road. The trail is mostly used to access the other trails in the park. Despite being simply an access trail, the trail does feature about 180 feet in elevation gain.

Green Dot Trail

The Green Dot Trail is a short trail connecting the Orange Trail to the Orange Trail. The trail is also the steepest in the park and features a short but very steep rocky scramble. The highlight of the trail is Bulkhead Rock which features a good view of Lake Mohawk.

This is one of two Yellow Trails in the park. This Yellow Trail is an easy loop trail beginning and ending on the Green Trail. Through the trees, you can see fleeting glimpses of the Newton Reservoir, but no clear views.

This is one of two Yellow Trails in the park. This Yellow Trail is an alternate path to (or from) the summit and to Bulkhead Road. The trail is steeper than the Green and Blue Trails, but gentler than the Green Dot Trail.

This is one of two Green Trails in the park. This trail extends from the end of the Green Dot Trail to the intersection with the second Yellow Trail. The trail gradually winds along a gentle path to (or from) the summit.

This is one of two Green Trails in the park. This extends from the second Yellow Trail to the Blue Trail, where it is briefly coblazed. As with the first Green Trail, this one gradually winds along a gentle path to (or from) the summit.

The Blue Trail is a short loop beginning on the Orange Trail just feet from the parking area. This trail is a mostly gentle loop along the western edge of the park. The trail is briefly coblazed with the Green Trail.
